zometool rocks!

nice to see a little tribe here on this awesome toolset. Maybe we can get some discussions going. I first saw zometool in the whole earth catalog back in 1994 or so, then finally bought a set in 1996. It was complete with a bunch of mathematical explorations not included in the new sets. Maybe I can scan them with OCR for us sometime.

I love making zometool objects that are symmetrical and can spin on the center axis... totally entrancing.

    Liquis,

I am a mathematics student at City College in NYC.
I'm also a marketing associate of Zometool Inc.

I have been involved in some huge Zome constructions!
I'd like to know what experience members of this tribe already have with Zome. I'd also like to know how I can help facilitate undersatanding of the amazing mathematics behing Zome and its awesome potential.

To start I encourage eveyone to visit Zometool.com to see what's new and take advantage of the free learning materials and project idead they offer.

You can get an idea of the level of Zoming I do if you visit
the Zome pages of Prof. David Richter of Western Michigan University
    homepages.wmich.edu/~drichte...index.htm

I have been hoping to get this tribe moving because TRIBE is quite different than Yahoo groups or Myspace. I think it has a lot of potential.

There is an established community of Zomers on Yahoo
    I moderate these groups-
    groups.yahoo.com/group/zomeuniverse (advanced)
    groups.yahoo.com/group/zomeworld (genral)
    groups.yahoo.com/group/zomeedu (educators)
groups.yahoo.com/group/polytopia (my misc. group about geometry)

    Liquis-
If you have the original Zome manual written by David Booth I would love if you can share it with me. I can load you up with other Zome resources in exchange.

    This is just the beginning-

I will upload photos, pdf instructions, academic papers, and organize workshops.
We just need to get more people involved on Tribe.

    Thanks

    -Dan Duddy

      hey dan

i messaged you some info about the manuals i have. the manual doesnt name the author (but the other one does). perhaps they may be of use. let me know if you want them scanned or mailed.

some of the last zome explorations i did was 2d (1 plane) pentagonal modelling to see how far the patterns unfolded.. trying to get a homogenous pattern in all directions (unlike hexagonal planes, pentagonal doesnt like to fold out very evenly)..... it's very difficult and i was unable to, (i also tried to avoid using rhomuses in the architecture). to fulfill my goal i probably need a good geometry program.

I'd like to be able to create larger structures.... i'd need some more parts though.

Did you see the Zome links I posted?

I can send you some really stimulating papers written on Zome.
        Just send me your address
